Richinbar was a gold mining camp that grew large enough by 1896 to warrant a Post Office which remained until 1912. The town was on the mesa overlooking the canyon containing the Agua Fria river. Rather than carrying water up the steep sides of the canyon, the ingenious residents used the power of the river to pump the water up to the town (probably using a waterwheel to power the pump).
The turn off to Richinbar is approximately 10.2 miles south of the intersection of Interstate 17 and Highway 64 to Prescot, AZ. The location is on private property within the Agua Fria National Monument, and is behind a gated fence.
